Well appointed and detailed apartment in a heritage building in central Dunedin.
The Henry Matthews Apartment is named and themed around early settlers George and Eliza Matthews whoin 1851 established a commercial plant nursery. In the following years, their son Henry led the business and furthered his career in horticulture and forestry.
Henry Matthews interiors are designed with the colours of nature in the urban environment. It mixes arts & craft, nouveau & deco, and earthy colours. Offering different views of Dunedin as the “Romantic City in which the classical formality of the built environment is offset by the wildness of area’s rugged topography ‘striking sparks between order and nature’.”
Each apartment is a short walk to retail shopping, supermarkets, café and restaurants, beauty and hair salons, Library, theatres, cinemas, bus hub, Law Courts and Police Station, Civic Centre, Town Hall, museums and art galleries, gyms, Moana Pool, hospital, University and Polytechnic. Fabulous walking and cycling tracks.

We loved everything, particularly the lovely welcoming touches, relaxing music playing,light left on, breakfast treats, beautiful coffee… Negroni if we wished. Super comfortable beds, the balcony…just perfect… we loved it and will be back
Holiday Couple
Finding Bell Hill Apartments is like having a wealthy uncle allowing you to stay at his beautiful urban apartment for a few nights. We stayed in the Henry Matthews apartment for two nights and sincerely wished we had booked for a longer stay. My husband and I have done a lot of traveling, but we have never had an urban apartment that was so immaculately clean, comfortable, and welcoming. The apartment is beautifully furnished down to the smallest details, and we instantly felt soothed and relaxed after a long morning of driving when we entered to the sounds of smooth jazz playing. The host provides breakfast items (fresh eggs, a loaf of whole grain bread, jams, butter, milk, orange juice, oatmeal packets, fresh fruit, coffee, and tea) which allowed me to cook the best breakfast we have had in days. The beds are comfortable, and although the bathrooms in the Henry Matthews apartment are a tad small, we loved that there is a stack washer and dryer in the downstairs bathroom so we could refresh our travel attire. We met the owner, who is a delightful gentlemen, and who showed us one of the other apartments, which overlook the park. We liked that there is safe, secure onsite parking and a lift from the garage. We absolutely loved this apartment and already trying to plan how to return for a longer staff in historic Dunedin.
Superb!
The Henry Matthews Apartment is Just Superb! Our second stay (Gaynor Clayton is still our favourite) The attention to detail is second to none. We feel as if the owners have stepped away and allowed us to see into their lives for a night. My wife and I just love that it doesn’t feel like accomodation. Loved the cocktail and breakfast goodies, thank you. Can’t wait to try the John Campbell next time

Historic stay
Staying in these beautifully restored apartments is worth a trip to Dunedin on its own. The detail and quality is amazing. Extra touches such as fresh coffee and breakfast goodies made this a favorite stay for us. We loved our time in the Matthews and Clayton apartments. It was perfect for our group of 6. Centrally located, convenient private parking. Highly recommend.

Fantastic apartment
We stayed here while attending the Otago open weekend and couldn’t rate these apartments higher. Fantastic amenities and the apartment is simply stunning. We will definitely be back soon.
